It should be safe. Ive heard nothing but good things about royal purple. However i wouldnt recommend adding it. You can never be sure how aftermarkelt products will react with oem. If your using it in an attempt as a quick fix in a bottle i would recomend solving the actual problem as there usually isnt a quick fix in a bottle that works.

I was thinking mor eof it's preventative powers. No cooling system issues, YET <knocks wood>, but I'm gonna be doin my TB shhortly, and was thinking about adding the Purp afterwards, you know, as added insurance...

I"m a "plan ahead" kinda guy...

i have not used that royal purple product but i have used there oil, tranny fluid, and i have never had any issues with it and since royal purple is a big time sponsor or drag racing ang scca racing if they say that it will work with your car it has been tested in at least a racing verison

I emailed the guys at Royal Purple, and this is what they said:

Troy,

The RP Purple Ice is fully compatible with the red / Pink VW G-12 type ethylene glycol coolant less phosphates with organic corrosion inhibitor package.
The Audi VW is not unique and similar coolants are available (although not if you believe everything stated by VW / Audi - much like the VW 502 and 501 engine oils).

RP carries manufacturer's liability insurance as required by US law.

Nice car by the way - have you performed any modifications?

Friend of mine in the UK has the equivalent only right hand drive and a manual. From a dead stop, he can break the tires lose in 3rd gear.

Cheers,

David

Gentlemen(?),

I am considering using your PurpleIce product on my 1999 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro. I have heard that Audi uses a special coolant (but, have not verified this, as of yet) that is not compatible with traditional products like Prestone and such. What, if anything, can you tell me about:

1) Audi coolant. i.e. is it some *special* blend specific to AUDI?

2) If the above is true, is your PurpleIce product compatible with this *special* brand of coolant?

3) If you say it is, and it turns out not to be, who's gonna replace my engine?

Respectfully,

The AWDaholic
