New ECU 1800?! VW & Audi sensors same?
So one morning my 97 A4 2.8 decided not to start... it rotates strong but will not fire. Started diagnosing and sure enough... I have no spark.
Battery is good, no blown fuses, plugs & wires are good, coils good. Hmmm... what's left? Engine speed sensor & ignition control module? Tested resistance on engine speed sensor and... nothing. Ordered a new one from a website... replaced it... still WON'T START WTF! Didn't test the old ICM just replaced it with new ICM... still won't start?! What's left ECU? BUT WAIT... the Hanes manual says the engine speed sensor should ouput 1ohm for audi models & 900ohms for VW models... the new one I just put in is reading 900ohms? Will that prevent it from starting or shouldn't that matter? Dealer wants $1800 for new ECU!! :mad: Can anyone HELP! |

Broke down and had the local Audi dealership diagnose the problem. I wish the Hanes manual would have mentioned to check the camshaft sensor if there's no spark. That would have saved me alot of time & money! Diagnose problem: 2 hours at $89/hr New Cam Sensor: $170 Replace Sensor: $50 for labor Total debacle price: $430 Not a happy camper. Pleaded with service department for a break on part price or shave some labour hours off... Would not budge. Making me think twice about buying another Audi if that's what I have to deal with everytime needs service. |
