new keyless entry remote
okay, first a history lesson
when i first bought my car privately all i got was the key with a massive handle on it(velet key i guess) and my switchblade key WITHOUT the buttons or anything, just the top half. that means that i didn't have the FCC number that i needed. so i bought a new one off of ebay recently but it's a different FCC number MY78Z0837231. i read that that won't work on my 2000 A4 1.8T fwd. why? has anyone else been able to make it work? also, how can i delete the memory of the old key FOB? i need help here :'( |
RE: new keyless entry remote
so, do i have to get the key cut first or can i just lock it with another key and just pres the buttons?
|
RE: new keyless entry remote
Yes, the key has to be cut so you can put it into the lock and turn it left/right (an un-cut key can Not lock/unlock the doors).

RE: new keyless entry remote
why? does the inside lock mechanism have to be making contact with the key?
|
RE: new keyless entry remote
You should be able to use another key.
|
RE: new keyless entry remote
okay, well i'll try it out and let you guys know
|
RE: new keyless entry remote
If you look in the manual it tells you exactly how to do it. I think that it also tells you that if they key is not original, you may have to bring the car to the dealer and have it reprogrammed for the buttons to work.
Anyway, let me know how it went. I have a spare that can unlock the car with but the car does not react to the buttons. |
RE: new keyless entry remote
I tried that procedure and I got a response (blink) from the car but eventually did not work.

RE: new keyless entry remote
well the thing is that i bought it privately and it did not come with the manual. that's the problem.
