just bought a6 cheap with 70000 on clock 2000 model.
oil pressure light come on took oil cap of see if it would splash out oil nothing.
any ideas,is it ok to drive

 

did you check the oil level?

 

More than likely the oil pick up tube is clogged causing oil starvation of the engine
Do not drive the car until it has been repaired!

 

hi, friend, do you checked the oil and it wad at the right level??? I think you need to have the actual oil pressure checked. It could be as simple as a bad oil pressure sensor, or ti could be a bad oil pump, bad bearings or a hundred other mechanical issues.

These cars are notorious for clogged oil pick up tubes caused by infrequent oil changes & wrong oil.
The oil pressure will have to be checked with a manual guage to be certain.
Idle spec is mininum 15-50 psi with engine at operating temperature , I believe at least 60 psi at 3000k rpm.
