I've looked but I can't see any way to remove them?

I absolutely hate the look of them, and I don't like chrome either

Afraid, we might not be much help on this one. I'm not that familiar with the A3, I'm sure they can be removed. There's got to be a cover over the fasteners or they clip on. I'll take a look at some other sources and see.

 

OK.. Just looked at a YouTube video about the roof racks for these cars. It looks like they are mounted with bolts that go through the roof. Removing them require removing head liner and would expose those holes. I wouldn't recommend that. It also appears they are stainless or aluminum though. You could mask them off and shoot them black or something.

I would love to take them off and fill the holes in, if thats not possible I might just paint them then.

 

It was a video on adding a rack. I just used it to get a look at those stock racks.
