Outside Temp shown is incorrect
I have a 99 A6, 2.8 Quatt. I have two issues with the temp displayin the cluster guage. First, The small screen in between the two guages in the dash that shows outside temperature information shows incorrect display. the temperature shown in the display is about 15-20 F lower than the actual outside temp. Can someone suggest what could be wrong and possible resolutions. IS there something i need to change and can i do it myself. Second, I live in NJ and in winter when the temp gets to 40 F or below, the snow sign comes up. Is this normal. I think the sign should come up around freezing (32 F)

RE: Outside Temp shown is incorrect
Should be the outside temp sensor(Most cases located either in about the grille area or in lower part of bumper)
The owners manual states that tempature may be slightly differant as a result of the heat from the engine
Hope this helps

RE: Outside Temp shown is incorrect
The reason the snowflake shows up around 38 degrees is because when the air temp is 38 or below, there is apossibility that the road could be slippery. It's just a warning to look out for ice spots.
Kind of like those signs on the highway that say "bridges freeze before roadway". It doesn't have to be 32 degrees on your thermometer for there to be icy conditions on the roads.

RE: Outside Temp shown is incorrect
I have seen the snow flake show up to the right of thedisplay whenthe tempis above freezing and switches to the left of the display when it is below freezing. I think the temperature display is an average of the temp over time and it may take time to read the correct outside temp, espically if it has been parked in a warm garage.
