Default Radio Problems

I have a 2003 A4 with the Bose system and the sound turns on and off. I'll go days without any sound at all. The radio is on all the displays work but no sound, then I'll be driving down the road or start the car and on come the radio. It's like a loose wire or something and I'm not sure how to get to any of the wiring. Today I tried to get to the back of the radio and just couldn't figure it out. Any ideas 1st on what the problem may be and 2nd how to fix it. thanks [>:]

I notice no-one has provided any response to your question and I am not too experienced myself but here goes. Does you sound system have a "mute" button or function? If so I would be taking a close look at that, ie. make sure the button is not sticking or maybe the remote mute wire may need repositioning or damaged. These are longshots as I am not familiar with the Bose system.

Good luck.

You car is equipped with an amp that supplys power to all the speakers. Sounds like you have a loose or shorted wire somwhere between the radio and the amp. Could also be a failed amp or faulty power or ground in the amp itself.

This makes me worry, this is my first Audi ( 1999 A6 2.4 Tiptronic with the round bootlid rear ) Bought it a month ago
After church on Sunday the radio still work fine, today _ Wednesday eve climb in car while not used for 3 days, switch radio on and CD mode, music come on then emediately start loud then soft and does it continiously. press mode and would not change to radio. no responce. put in cassette, it takes it in but would not play cassette. start car up, still nothing but now sound is gone, switch on the Parking lights the the volume is higher but goes
soft _loud_ soft_loud. Low Beam is same with higher volume and full beams the volume goes up more but still intermittent sound and with headlights on i could change MODE from CD to Radio and then could eject cassette
if i switch off headlights now there is no sound

the radio is Audi Concert

is there anywhere to find Complete Electrical Scematic for this car, Haynes manual ???? cant find on www for this model, is there another model which should have exact same wiring?

I am in South Africa Vhd Kzn

Sorry guys. There's a limited # of actual techs on our boards. most of our "help" comes from folks like me who share what little we know based on our personal experiences. If no one has encountered anything like what you're having difficulty with we tend to wait, and hope someone who HAS had similiar problems, or one of the techs, will ring in with their $0.02 worth.

Stove, MY personal experiences lead me towards a loose ground (as Dank, an ACTUAL Audi Tech, I believe, suggested). I believe there may be a radio removal tool that you can find on eBay, that will make it easier to rem yours. I say *may* because I'm not 100% sure it's applicable for your model year. Do a search and you should be able to quickly determine if it's workable for you, or not. From there... it'd be time to start tracing wires. I've got an old CD, somewhere, that also MAY have wiring diagrams for your model/year. I'll check when I get back home, later on tonight or tomorrow. If so, I'll PM you and we can work out how ahm'll get a copy to you. Howzat?

Chris2, YOUR problem seems to be fixed, from what you say, however, if it WAS a voltage issue you may also be dealing with charging-system issues. Check your primary battery connections, both sides, for signs of corrosion, if you haven't already done so. Clean them, if needed, and check them periodically for a while (once a month, or so). If they begin to ree-corrode you may want to consider getting a newer, younger battery and/or confirming that your alternator is putting out the correct voltage in a steady0state manner.

Again, Guys, MY advice is based on MY personal experiences, not any technical training I've have or haven't had, so don't take it as teh be-all/end-all solution.
