Que tal everybody. I have a light Silver 2003 A6 2.7T Quattro and I want to replace my rear brake pads and I need some expert advice on the right way to do and what tools I will need. I recently got the car and this is my first time doing the brakes. Thanks.

 

Well i can tell you what you probably have which is a 13mm wrench, a 15mm wrench or vice grips,
but you won't have the audi rear brake special tool which collapses the brake caliper piston. The rear brake piston is a screw design which means you can't collapse it with channellocks or whatever. Take it to the dealer, or you can buy the tool for about $180 dollars, its probably not worth it. Im a tech in sacramento for audi, so you can take my word on it.

 

AutoZone sells a cube shaped tool, which can be modified, for $10.
You'll have to file two of the nipples. This is what I had to do on my A4.
You'll also have to open the bleed valve to turn the piston.

You can sometimes find it on eBay, for slightly less than HarborFreight has it. With that tool your rear brakes will be a snap to do. One caveat, if you wait TOO LATE to replace them you won't have enuff room to get the tool into the caliper, to push the piston back into it hole, so you'll hafta old-school it, with a 8" c-clamp, a large chan-l-lock or vice-grip wrench, and some scrong muscles!!!

Then do a search. I'm 100% certain someone on here has posted a DIY for the rears. It's pretty much teh same, regardless of your model/year.

 

you can actually rent the caliper piston tool at autozone for $35 and if returned in good shape, they give you all your money back. don't use the cube! it's a piece of crap. i tried for 30 min. with the cube before i wised up and rented the right tool from autozone.
