Default replacement of timing belt...

can I just replace the belt or are there other components that need to be replaced at the same time?
I have 120K on my 96 A4.

other than a time consuming process, is this relatively 'do-able' for a DIYer?

That tutorial is not for your engine. Check out the 12 valve forum on Audiworld for instructions. Just post for there for instructions. I don't have the link to the diagram anymore.

You'll probably also need a cam lock tool as well as the crank holding tool. It's pretty important to have them to keep the cams lined up with each other, otherwise you'll cause engine damage.
