Ripped CV Boot Mystery

Ripped CV Boot Mystery
I have a 2006 A4 3.2 with about 55K Miles. Today at the 55K Service ($550.00...ouch) they discovered a ripped right front CV Boot.
Coincidentally, I had the right front fender replaced about 2 months ago due to a "hit and run" I suffered in a parking lot over the summer.
The CV Boot was ripped right where the clamp sits on it. Would the body shop need to mess with the CV Boot at all to replace the fender, or is this merely a coincidence?
