Rough running or misfiring
Ok after spending over $600 having my usual shop take a look at my car problem I decided to post it here for insights from Audi owners. The car is a 1998 A4 Quattro 1.8T started to hesitate but didn't quite sound like misfiring... the shop said ignition pack on #1 was shot - replaced it and commended to get the other 3 done ASAP, they also did a tune up and changed the spark plugs. The car performed nicely for half a day! by evening time is was doing the same thing all over again. Since they charged too much for my liking I bought the other 3 packs; along with a Haynes repair manual, it seems the shop committed straight out robbery, pretty easy to change along with another audi owner who had done the same thing to his car - same model. However, the problem persists; another friend said it could be a vacum leak, but the shop originally check for that and found none. For a '98 car, I really don't to add a "dealer" shop cost to the list, it may be another $3k to tell me to change the packs again. Any suggestions? help!

Misfire
My 2001 S4 was misfiring badly. It started only once or twice a month with no power loss, only a CEL. After taking it in to get the coil packs replaced, pressure tested, fuel injectors swapped and gone over, the problem persisted. Then every time I hit 3500 RPM's it would misfire, much less in WOT. After unsuccessful and expensive trips to the audi dealership I took it to a performance shop. They replaced one ignition coil again and after replacing the spark plugs the car runs as good as new. Don't go to audi!
