I just bought this car a week ago. I've been looking around for one for a long time. Well today my CEL came on and it's P0491, P0492 Secondary Air System (Bank 1 & 2). Any ideas on this? I bought a VAG for my jetta a while back. Haven't ever used it. Maybe this would work on diagnosing the problem? Guess I'll probably need the software to use it?

Maybe it's just the cold a$$ weather around here. Although it didn't come on until after I had been driving it a while today. Seems strange.

 

I would listen for the air pump running early in the morning on cold startup. I can't remember the way that setup works but i think that one vaccum solenoid works both banks on that system. So check for broken vaccum lines that is the most common problem you will see....

 

Yeah I pulled the top cover off and noticed a line right on top that had come off some sort of vacum looking thing. I put it back on but I might have to replace the hose as it was a big stretch to get it on there. Didn't seem to effect the CEL though. Maybe I should get it replaced and then reset the ECU.

 

yea if it looks damaged replace it, i can't remember, does vag-com able to reset the readiness codes if so i think it is block 77

 

I'm having the same exact problem is there anything that you could suggest that I do? What's the cost to fix this problem?
