Timing Off???
Im apologize in advance for another damn timing question. Just finished installing my ECS Ultimate timing belt kit with lightweight crank pulley on my 1998 A4 1.8TQ. Now here's my issue. I figured before I threw my rad back on and filled her up with coolant i would check to see if she even starts. Well she does...and purrs like a kitten for about 15-20 seconds and then dies. Do these cars have a safety feature for running without coolant? Please help if you have anything at all that may be helpfull. Thanks in advance!

RE: Timing Off???
Theres no safety feature for no coolant. It will run without coolant untill it blows up. Running the car without coolant isnt especially good for the water pump either. Never seen a condition like this after a timing belt. I cant really think of anything that you could have done that would cause this condition. I would double check your timing. Was the battery disconnected? You may have lost your throttle prgraming.

RE: Timing Off???
this may sound stupid...but is your oil filler cap on/ all tubes connected? theyre a non pcv system and will run like absolute $#!+ if the system isnt sealed, but i dont think ive seen one quit from this. the wont shut off from being out of time either, its will still run a couple teeth off, you just stand the chance of bending valves. May want to check your cam sensor or crank sensor. any check engine lights?

RE: Timing Off???
Naw problem has been fixed. I was testing to see if it would start/run...but I forgot I had disconnected my I/C pipes to get more movement out of my rad for the install. hehe, so the MASSIVE air leak in the system made it shut down after a few seconds

RE: Timing Off???
I just had the timing belt replacen on my 00 A4 1.8T and a day later my cel came on. I called the garage and he said it wasnt related to the job . However I had noticed a gas smell from the rear of the car. The car runs good but the garage thinks its a evap line that is cracked . Any suggestions ?
