Default TIPTRONIC PROBLEM

I HAVE A 04 AUDI A4 3.0

WHEN PUTTING MY CAR IN TIPTRONIC MODE IS SOMETHING SUPPOSED TO CHANGE ON MY DASH? MY FRIEND THAT HAS A 01 1.8 TURBO SAID HIS DISPLAYS THE GEAR YOUR IN. BUT WITH MINE NOTHING AT ALL CHANGES. IT MADE ME KIND OF NERVOUS SO I NEVER REALLY TRIED TO USE IT.. ANY IDEAS ANYONE??

What does your owners manual say?
Look at the photos on the display .

The part or the instrument cluster where it displays p,r,n,d should change to numbers for the gear you are in. Check to see if the tip even works. You wont hurt anything. My guess would be that is wont work in which case you probably have a bad switch unit under the shifter. Usually there is a fault in the trans control module if there is a problem with the tiptronic.

YAH NOTHING HAPPENS IN TIP MODE. NOTHING CHANGES ON DISPLAY NOR DO GEARS SHIFT. HOW MUCH AM I LOOKING AT TO FIX THIS AT THE DEALER?? ANY CLUE?

Same thing happens to me. I switch into TIP but am unable to shift gears and the display doesn't change at all.

It really depends. Sometimes there is a magent that falls out of the tiptronic switch in which case you must just put the magnet back in place. Worst case scenerio is that the swihtch was damage by eithr something spilled on it or some other electrical failure. In that case you would need a new switch assembly under the shifter. Not to much labor but the part will probablly run at least a couple hundrend bucks.

same thing is happening to me

this is the most unreliable car I have ever owned, by far. Good thing I got it free.

same happens when no lights no gear changes but auto remains. quote to fix $4800 to change tcm the computer servo. i bought a dvd manual and will check the selector magnets etc. my vag fault check came up check wiring so this is the next step

This is fixed. Its a 50 dollar magnet piece.
