Tire tread depth

I have to replace one tire on my 96 A6 avant. I curbed it[:@]and took a nice chunk out of the sidewall. It still holds air but Iwith the roads in SI, NY it is just a matter of time before it blows out.I can find the same tire used, but how much of a tread dept difference is too much for the quattro?
The tires are 205/55/16.

Thanks.

RE: Tire tread depth

Try to find the same model tire with + or - 2/32" tread depth left / right.
Front / backhas more tolerance.
