trans. swap now po705 code
 

So I think my naive attitude and being new to the Audi world got me. My daughter has a 97 Cabriolet that had transmission trouble. Last week I found a 96 Cabriolet with a new transmission at P-N-P so I grabbed it and stuck it in, both were 4 speed autos. Now the car is dead won't even turn over, the OBDII code P0705 Transmission range sensor malfunction. would explain that. My question is if I get the TCM/TCU from the 96 installed will that fix it or is it an adjustment or am I SCREWED. Please help!!!! my daughter will be back in town next week and will not be amused with her dads new yard art

My first guess would be the range sensor on the used trans is bad. No offense but,,,,,,,,,,it is plugged in right? Not that I've ever done that! lol

A '96 and '97 use the same range sensor. Could be the shift cable adjustment. Make sure the cable can be snapped on with the lever in park and the detent lever also in park without moving either one. Might want to swap the sensor from the old trans and see what happens.

Thanks for your advice. I am soo glad the answer wasn't sorry you're going to need the old TCU which is 150 miles away in a car that might not be there any more. I have been researching on line and will give it a shot tomorrow.

Well as it turned out the sensor connecter was dirty and just a little electronics cleaner did the trick. I am very relived. thanks for the advice
