Transmission question
Hi guys,
My Audy A4 (2003) has just started popping out of 4th gear (Manual gearbox). All other gears are OK and if I keep my hand on the gearstick I can stop it popping out. It started about 2 weeks ago and it hasn't gone away.
Is this going to be an expensive repair? or is it just a small adjustment that needs to be made?
My local Audi garage wants to charge me £75 to diagnose which I thought was a bit steep.

RE: Transmission question
well first i need to know what trans you car has is it quattro or fwd?
if it a quattro then your 4th gear is direct drive and there are a few things that can cause that to slip out excessive endplay of the input shaft move it<>, worn syncros, worn front case bearings, worn shift forks, and the one you hope it is to just adjust your linkage.
if its fwd then it could be the other things too except it would be the output shaft instead of input, also you gears are held in place by a little ball and spring they do tend to wear over time.
but unless its the linkage youll probably need to have a trans shop look at it
