Okay i have a 96 a4 2.8qm. today while driving it i noticed the tranny was kinda humming, i could still shift through the gear great and the clutch was working great but ive heard that when the tranny starts whining of making a humming noise theres a major problem. is this true or is it just some noise im gonna have to live with. has this happened to anyone else.

 

if posible change the tranny fluid, and deferential also. with a good syntetic oil.

also the TEST.
as you drive and hear the hum, jump into neutral, if hum continues then its a def.
if not, there is still posibility of the def.

huming is bad, etehr bearings are bad or the teath on gear(s) got damaged.

also posible that the bearings in the wheels also bad.
TEST, you put G load on that wheel which you test, hum increases its bad.
