but the car is automatic. do you mean that when the trans kicks down and the turbo spins up it's the same as a manual shift?

I have been noticing the same problem with mine. I have a 01 A4. I do believe is more transmission then turbo lag. 95% of my cars have been manual and the rpm band is defiantly not where it should be we you go to speed up.

I am going to the Audi dealer to get a key cut and ask about this. I'll let you know what they say to me about the shifting.
