Hello all.. I have a 2013 A5 2.0T and there is a vacuum sound coming from a small hole on the circular part of the PCV. I also have CEL with a P12a2, P0507 and P2187. I am assuming that the vacuum leak on PCV is not normal causing the codes.. Don't just want to change parts. Can someone tell me if the vacuum leak is normal.. thanks in advance.

 

Yep. It's bad. The one on my A8 was doing the same thing back in the winter. Replaced it and fixed the issues. You'll need to clear the codes on ECU to make the CEL go off in short order though. I took my old PCV valve apart and the diaphragm was split. This will let too much air in the intake at all times....

I can't remember right off hand but if it's sucking air there, it will throw those types (lean, idle, fuel pressure) of codes. A vacuum leak (which technically is what this is) will cause all types of little issues. Bottom line is that if that PCV valve is leaking, it's bad and should be replaced. The good thing is that it's not expensive and is easily replaced.

 

No it wasn't...$82 with tax from the dealership around the corner from me... Installed in 15 minutes. Just was not sure if the fuel rail code was caused by the leak. Thanks again for your help.

 

Clear the codes on the ECU and drive it a while. If there are no issues, you know it was that air leak causing the issue. The fuel rail code may have been the result of the ECU trying to keep the engine running with too much air. Vacuum leaks will cause ALL kinds of different issues, especially with these overly computer controlled engines.
