Default Wheel Bearing issues b5 2.8Q

I took my car in to be inspected after a noise developed on the rear drivers side tire. I replaced the pads and rotors in hopes that was the issue. When i took it in I was told it was my lower wheel bearing. It is a 400 dollar fix if I take it in but I can do the work myself just need to know if the lower wheel bearing is the wheel hub or just a rear wheel bearing. The wheel hubs are 200+ the bearings start at about 60+. Anyone know which part I need, or had this issue before? Any help would be greatly appreciated also any websites with cheaper auto parts?

I just put a new bearing in my car earlier this week, and it's a pretty easy job to accomplish. The bearing is a sealed bearing, I paid 65$(*** A0213F06) for mine. The hub is pressed into the center of the bearing, which is pressed into the upright. I would recommend replacing the axle bolt, and also pre-loading the suspension before you torque the upper control arm bolt or anything with bushings. Also mark your eccentric washer on your lower control arm/upright, to maintain your camber setting. I have the bentley repair manual pdf file for the torque specs if you need them.

Was it the upper or lower bearing? Is there an upper and lower? I still don't know if I just buy the bearing or wheel hub, the quote I got said lower wheel bearing which I assumed was the wheel hub. What brand did you buy and did you buy online?

There is no need to buy a new hub, and the rear only has 1 bearing. I will attach a diagram of the assembly.

Einzelganger is dead-nuts correct on this. You need a press to change them out. $400 is high - most places get $300. What I'd do is call a few places and ask how much they'd charge just for pressing out the old and the new one in. I take the spindle off the car and go to a local place, hand it and the new bearing to them, and the guy presses it all for $20. Then I go home and put the car back together.
