Default Why would an ESP error cause my car to run rought?

Hello All,

The ESP malfunction light in my 2003 A6 started coming on recently. When it does, the car feels sluggish or will even die when slowing to a stop.

I thought the ESP was a traction control thing, yes linked to some ABS functions but what does that have to do with basic engine function and idle?

I don't care about the light being on, just worried that its screwing up the engine to continue driving it like this.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I also have the same problem with my 2003 A6. Did you get any feedback?

I have not gotten any responses or info yet. I will say that I went to the local auto parts store to check the error codes. When finished and cleared all the codes it also turned the ESP light off. Everything ran perfect for a few days.

I was not expecting the ESP to be related to error codes but maybe it was just coincidence. The ESP will turn off after being on every so often... I'm getting used to it as sad as that is to say. If I switch into Sport mode when the light comes on, it prevents stalls at stop signs.

Anyway, here are codes I got:

P0101 Audi Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range-Performance Pro
P0102 Audi Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input OBDII Engin
P0171 Audi System Too Lean Bank 1 OBDII Engine Light Trouble Cod
P0172 Audi System Too Rich Bank 1 OBDII Engine Light Trouble Cod
P0174 Audi System Too Lean Bank 2 OBDII Engine Light Trouble Cod
P0175 System Too Rich Bank 2 OBDII Engine Light Trouble Code | E
P0300 Audi Random Cylinder Misfire Detected OBDII Engine Light T
P0302 Audi Cylinder 2 Misfire Condition OBDII Engine Light Troub
P0304 Audi Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected OBDII Engine Light Troubl
P0305 Audi Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected OBDII Engine Light Troubl
P0306 Audi Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected OBDII Engine Light Troubl

From what I see, the mass air flow sensor is causing problems but not sure what that has to do with stabilization and ESP!!!
