Exhaust options on a budget

I have a 2000 A4 1.8T Q and the exhaust is way to quiet for my liking. Im looking for sound and power and since im in a state where emissions arent a problem im thinking about pulling the cats along with the resonators and getting a straight through muffler. My problem with pulling the cats is i heard its hard on the turbo because its so small and picky... i dislike the magnaflow exhaust sound. Im looking for the rasp and gargle/burp sound in the decel. any ideas

hope someone can answer your questions. Thats the setup I'm looking for also.

i havnt heard of a test pipe being hard on the turbo. and ive only seen power numbers from an apr exhaust, idk about the others. im on a budget and i was just thinkin of goin 2.5" custom cat back, with just a muffler no resonators. thats about the only budget option. otherwise your looking at about 700$ or more for a decent brand name exhaust. thats the extent of my 2 cents. im in the same predicament. you can find the borla for JUST under 700 at the rite websites.

I picked up a fairly cheep apr cat back exhaust set up. Its 2.5 inch stainless steel with one resinator and a dual tip muffler. I'm contemplating taking the resinator out before I throw it in. Also does anyone know of a 2.5inch test pipe?

If you are on a budget, go with the res & muffler delete and add a vibrant muffler in the back. That should run around 350 with everything.

DOes anyone know where to get an exhaust for a 96 a4 2.8L FWD??? They are hard to find...Im thinkin of just goin with a custom setup!

Custom works fine and costs a lot less. I used a vibrant resonator and Magnaflow muffler and had a shop build the rest. I have $330 into it all-told. Sound videos are in the Sight and Sound subforum.

Agreed!
My local shop put my exhaust in for $270. Just bought a megan racing muffler and they welded me a new exhaust in a day. Best of luck.

$330 is all? where did you get the work done?

$330 is all? where did you get the work done? was that just for labor or parts too?

That's everything - muffler, resonator, and all piping, clamps, and labor at a local shop.
