New to Forums - 2012 S4 Bad Cat?

Hello! I am new to the forums and this is my first post. Yes, I know how to use the search function but just wanted to get some opinions on my particular situation.

I just purchased this 2012 Audi S4 Prestige a couple of weeks ago. I knew when I purchased the vehicle that the car had been in an accident and the front grille and hood had been replaced and the car was issued a rebuilt title. I had a MIL light come on with the code P0420 which was something about Bank 1 being below threshold and is related to the catalytic convertor.

I took it to the stealership this morning and they are making sure that the cat is the actual issue but are saying that any warranty claim will be denied even though the vehicle only has 30k miles. Now I understand that the fact the title is rebuilt voids the factory warranty but has anyone had any luck with the 8 year 80k miles EPA regulations in getting service performed overriding that fact? Hope that makes sense. I look forward to learning a lot since this is my first Audi!

Update - Dealership is saying it needs a new catalytic convertor. Cost of repair - $2,837.24. Any thoughts?

I'd imagine the federal warranty would still cover it. Try contacting someone at the EPA to get some clarification, OR go to a different dealer. You'd be amazed at the varying attitudes these people have.

So the plot thickens. I called the EPA and conferenced in with Audi and I'll be damned, Audi said they would honor the Federal emissions warranty. THE CATCH - If they find ANY signs of damage to the cat that they can blame on the accident, I'm on the hook for the full $2800.

So, I called a local mechanic and he quoted $750 PARTS AND LABOR. I just want the P0420 MIL to go away! Should I trust a local mechanic that says he's worked on Audi before or should I take the gamble with the dealership?
