To the original poster, do a search for "Audi A4 _______" on YouTube, and in the blank, put in different muffler names (ie, magnaflow, milltek, remus, etc). A particular favorite of mine is the Magnaflow 14816 - sounds fantastic. |

Remus tends to be deeper and less aggresive than some of the others. A very refined and classy tone.
+1 on hearing and seeing how well that $20 muffler works out! |
dont buy crappy ebay stuff. itll rot and fall off. spend some cash and get a stainless one. the mufflers dont make the sound, the motor does, so if u want some growl, get a downpipe instead, then do the rest of the piping. go stainless. do it once, do it right.

How does a down pipe improve performance/exhaust sound?
|
it lets the turbo spool easier and faster, because its not choking it down as much. n/a motors have specificly designed headers to create some back pressure and cause exhaust pulse(look up the terms if you dont know these). with a turbo application backpressure is bad. an n/a motor with 0 backpressure runs like crap, a turbo motor with back pressure runs like crap. so if u get a larger diameter downpipe, youre decreasing said backpressure. most applications are 2.5-3 inch. a lot of ppl will not need more than 2.5 inch because that flows enough gas thru it. some use a 3 inch because of the sound. you wont need to step over a 3 inch margin till youre about 500+whp. most of us are never getting there.

What type of sound is heard, the whistling sound?
|
the hiss/wistle youre hearing is the turbo, it becomes more apparent. it also becomes more throaty and deeper
