what should come first.. intake or intercooler?

I just got an '01 A4. I would like to add a little performance, should i start with an intake, or an intercooler? I know i would see more gains w/ an intercooler, I think, but would it make no sense to do so w/o an intake first? Please enlighten me on this situation..
Any suggestions on brands and websites would be appreciated!

Thanks people!

dont know much about a4's, but generally an after market intercooler is bigger. therefore more air is boosted. usually a small drop in boost is to be expected as a result of the bigger area. lower boost can lead to lower hp, but then again lower air temps can lead to higher hp. so i dont know.

but IMO, it all starts with and intake. Carbonio is what all my friends have, but i think a k & n filter will do if you want to cut some costs and buy the intercooler as well. hope this helps some.

I have an Evo motorsports induction system. I would recommend an intake before intercooler just because its cheaper and if your on a stock turbo, the intake will make a bigger difference in your performance plus being about $600 cheaper. Good luck.

FWIW, I think chipping the car should come first. I would then work on the intake and upgrade the intercooler and add a bigger turbo.

Cheers!
