Brights not working on my 92 quattro, follow up, removed the steering wheel, plastic around the column, pulled the left side of the combi switch. Disassembled the switch assembly plastic sliders, copper contacts and cleaned and filed the contact points. Re assembled and the brights work. Probably just a little oxidization on the contact tabs, or the longer copper tabs had bent a little and the contact for the brights was gaped out a little.
