Default Audi A4 High mileage

I'm thinking about buying an A4 with 105,000 miles on the clock. Is there anyone out there with high mileage A4's? If so any probs? This will be my first Audi.

i have 107,000 on my 97 2.8 no probs realy just mantiance. if you can get service records on it it a plus. make sure timing belt and water pump is done. if unsure get it done usualy around $600-700 at local shop 1000+ at dealer. the only prob i have now is a chip in first gear ,i can live with it but its annoying. this is not a common prob just one of mine.

btw what year and engine?

I've a '99 A4 2.8 Q with 95,000 miles on the clock - just went thru its service and MOT not too long ago and passed with flying colours. I never really seen an Audi thats been ragged out tho - not of that age anyway. U can def. put these motors thru their paces.

Best of luck in buying one mate

Yes, I've got a 2000 A4 Avant Quattro with 112,000 miles on it. I've had some upgrades done, but as far as maintenance make sure the timing belt has been changed along with the water pump and replace the diverter valve on the turbo. Check for vaccum leaks, might want to consider replacing o2 sensors Iif you engine light isn't on don;t bother) and check the oil sump screen fr clogs. A4 turbos are known to have tha t bth cloggimg. If you suspect that you a clogged sump sceem,I'd. A bit more maintecnance s required on the turbo engine. GL

Yes i know i'm a newbie to the forum and the audi world.... i'm in the market for a 96-98 A4... i would also like to know what to look for. milage on the ones i've seen are around 120k and i want to get a good idea of what to ask the seller and what not and what to look for if i do see one that i very interested in.... Aslo another question is whats the how long do audi's last.. i know everything can last a long time if taken care proprely.. but i'll be switching over from a Honda to an Audi so i wanted to see a comparison. any info would be a great deal of help... thanks everyone

Wlecome frankiegib and ceostatus0 !!

First of all, these are tough questions to answer because it's all relative to the way the car has been treated up to the point of your sale.

Older (high mileage) Audis need the same scrutiny you would give any other older car, but you should include an extra look at:
1. Control arms.
2. Timing belt.
3. Water pump.
4. Fuel pump and filter.
5. Brakes.
6. Cooling sytem.

Of course, if it's a turbo model, then the turbo system needs a thorough checking, too. The DV valve and all hoses should be checked.
The MAF is one last item to have checked, too.

There are plenty of past posts on these issues that you can look up in the archives.

Well team A4, there is a 1997 Audi A4 2.8L 5Speed in Midtown Manhattan that is very well known to all of the parking lot valets and attendants, because it has 528,000 plus Manhattan miles on it, and is all original and unrebuilt or molested in any way except for normal maintenance performed at the dealer. From what people say, the engine, transmission, CV joints, muffler, etc. are all original except for one battery... Seeing is believing and and many people in Midtown Manhattan have not only seen but driven the car.

And I got it for $2500 .at first I was scared that it will break down but it hasn't I'm satisfied with what I have and seeing other guys one has 500,000 milesvim surprised.
