Bazzle from Oz S3 2011
I come from an R32 with DSG I had for 6 years, great car, never let me down. Only mildly modded to improve dynamics. Was written off just before Xmas by a twerp who understeered out of a junction and hit me nearly head on. I managed to swerve left but for the car it was fatal, for me just sore ribs and a few minor cuts.
OK, what to buy that was similar. Whilst I the 3.6 v6 I never wanted a turbo car as its off the line performance and continuing smooth power was terrific.
Things changed quickly.
I started looking at mk6 Golf R's as I wanted to get a younger car.
Then I realised the Audi S3 was generally the same but with a few tweaks. Took an 2011 Ibis white Sportback for a test drive and purchased it on the spot.
Still getting used to the turbo lag and the understeer....
but have settled in to it over the last few weeks.
My R32 had the uprated control unit in the Haldex that really helped on faster corners but didnt do much for slow wet corners that the S3 seems to hate. Its like there is not enough positive caster.
Fixed it a little by putting a standard R32 rear sway bar on it (~10% stiffer). It now lifts the back wheels easier too. Trade off is loss of traction at the rear. These cars appear to be too stiff in the chassis already.
Next thing when new tyres come along (Michelin PS3 235/40/18) will be to ensure the front camber is at its bottom limit and toe is at it min setting
