Default im buying an audi a6 and i know nothing

howdy, im from toronto canada, and im going to buy an audi.

i dont trust salesmen who tell you just what you want to here so...

im thinking about an a6 2000-2002- is there any difference between those years?

i just dont know what to look for in this type of vehicle and what are important considerations when making a purchase.

im a dumb jock and never been on a forum so i might now be doing this right, but if anyone feels kind enough to answer some questions of mine, that would be great.

thanks in advance.

welcome, dumb jock, I'm a/was a Smart Track & Field runner, who now spends his time wakeboarding and participating in extra circular activities at my fine educational institution.

I would be happy to answer all I can but if you will direct your attention to the A6 forum you might find people who are better suited to help you seeing as I own an A4 but I'll try where I can.

First of, look for the normal stuff rust, any shakes, etc. Look at the millage and if it is around or above 70K ask them if they have had the Timing Belt changed along with the pulleys that go along with it. If you can have the car scanned with a VAG-Com (Audi's version of a diagnostic device) either at the dealer where you will be purchasing the car, or at an independent shop (Autozone does it for free) or friends house if they have one. You want to check for any hidden codes that might be thrown but not trigger a Check engine light (CEL). After that drive the car and test it out, chances are you will love it and want to get an Audi.

2000-2002 A6's should basically be the same minus some options probably. Now as the engine goes you have some options. If you are looking for a reliable DD that has some get up and go but not a ton, get the 2.8L version. If you want a screamer get the 2.7t and I think there is a 4.2 option on the A6 but I'm not sure. Be warned though the 2.7t while fun, has bitturbo's so will require more parts (equaling more money) when something breaks.

Hopefully this will help somewhat and welcome to the Audi Community.
