I'm new to this forum but not new to Audi. My first car was a 1973 Audi 100LS, which was fun to drive, but a real PITA to own - it was "featured" as one of the 10 worst cars to own by Consumer Reports in the mid 70's. I had lots of problems: broken shift linkage, leaking heater core, rusted body panels, broken trannythat needed to be rebuilt - all in less than 5 years of ownership! Sold it in 1978 (with great relief), and didn't dare come back to Audi for many years. In the mean time I became a BMW fan - owned a 1979 320i, 1986 528e, and have been driving a 1997 328i Convertible for the past 10 years. But in 1996 we ventured tentatively back into the Audi dealership and bought my wife an A6 Quattro, which we still own and has been a great car for us. Quite a pleasant experience compared to that old 100LS POS! We've been so happy that in the past 4 years we bought an A4 for one daughter (college graduation present), and an A3 for the other daughter (also a college graduation present). And to top it off,just this past week I placed an order for a new S5, loaded with the tech package and premium sound. I test drove the BMW 335i coupe (with twin turbo), but I really liked the way the S5 drove, accelerated, and sounded (nice deep exhaust note), and finally decided that it was just so pretty that I had to makethe jump to Audi. Unfortunately the carwon't arrive until sometime in the spring, so until then I'll continue to drive my bimmer convertible and dream of the future. Meanwhile I'm looking forward to learning as much as a can from this forum.

you are a lucky man I've been told the S5's are really nice. I might have to go check out one just for fun.
