New owner of A4...dissapointed...

Hello,

I'm a fresh owner of an second hand 1997 Audi A4 Avant 1.8, 20V.
This is the car I wanted to get for a long time.

But...

I have big problems with it...engine just died... :(
Now I have to get another engine.

The engine type that I have in my car is ADR.
I found one wrecked 2002 Audi A3 with 1.8 V5, type AGN engine and I'm not sure if it would fit in my car.

I'm not very good with english so bare with me while I try to explain the problem ;)

This A3 has engine mounted across while mine A4 has the oposite (I don't know how to say it in English).

So...if someone understands what I am trying to say i would really like some help.

Is it possible for me to mount this A3 engine in to my A4?

Thanks for any information! :)

Hey, no, I can't imagine you would be able to mount a transverse engine into a car designed for a longitudinal engine. If the cars are quattro then it will be even harder as transverse audi engines use the Haldex quattro system and longitudinal engines use the Torsen quattro system.

Yea you might have trouble fitting that engine especially because its drive by wire, while yours is drive by cable, which means you would have to swap the wiring harness, the pedals, some other stuff which I'm forgetting, good luck though and that sucks about the blown engine. Timing belt im guessing?

The A3's are transversly mounted quattros

sorry about your misfortune. does the insurance cover it? you should consider looking into a different car if you have too. something easier and cheaper to fix. like a 70 chevelle SS 454 4-speed

Welcome Flayo. Sorry to hear about your car. How many miles did it have on it when you bought it? Do you know exactly what happened to it? Depending on what happened, you may be able to buy a used head and not have to buy an entire engine. It can be difficult to find someone who will just sell the head and not the entire engine but it's cheaper and worth a try.
