1.8T after 100k Miles?
this is a mechanics view, I had a car in with 250k on the clock "original timing belt/water pump/changed the oil 3 times in its life" but it was checked by a mechanic and was told of repairs required "not the book saying you should replace the timing belt at whatever mileage" fact is its down to experience at the end of the day, but if your no mechanic you have to go by the book or learn

did you know the timing belt will out last you and its the components that fail not the belt

Ohh, ye. Timing belt is so strong that you can tow a rig with it. No doud about it.
I use serpanteen belt to suspend stuff in air. including my self, and I am not light.
Usually, you can hear if somethng wrong, but stuff like serpanteen belt just isnt one of these things, if it fails, you hear BUM, and done.
My self, I check all belt related like this, first luft, if there is one I replace the part. second I slowly spin the thing, if I hear or mostly feel a discantinuety then I give my self like 40% on replacing the thing. If there is a lot of discantinuetes then I simply replace it.
My uncles car almost lost its T belt, simply becouse, the dudes who where doing the car, tightened the tightener the oposite way, (they tightened down instead of UP).
ITS always on audi and VW UP, or UP.
eany way, he had 1.8L 1989, so if it whent nothing would have happened simply he would stop some where.
what is the timing belt made of?? yes it will tow a rig/ what causes the timing belt to break/how long do you think a timing belt will last?/who makes them?/how good are they "considering they are the No1 in making timing belts" ( GATES ) the dudes who where doing the car, tightened the tightener the opposite way, (they tightened down instead of UP).
ITS always on Audi and VW UP, or UP. BAD MECHANICS and not only prone to Audi

my problem is coming to grips with all this information, when I was in training all I did was what I was told, thanks to 15 years on the internet I know better and learned many things "above my trade"
Ye, tnx to forums, people can share they expirience. Thously increasing expirience of evry one that can read.
hmm, but what about hearing, hmmmm.........
well OFF TOPIC now
On topic:
just go with the flow, its always a gambale.
