1.8T Turbo cutting out
 

Hey guys. I really do apologise if this has been gone over before. I have been searching for hours and my situation seems to be a bit more unique than the posts I was coming across.

I just bought a 2000 Audi TT 1.8T. The turbo spools and I can hear it for a couple of seconds, then it just stops. My power drops and I can hear the turbo stop spooling. If I keep my foot planted on the gas, it will repeat the same thing. Spool and then just stop.

What should I be looking for? If it bad for me to be driving the car right now? No check engine light.

Try replacing the diverter valve. The OEM DV has a crappy plastic diaphragm that may have failed and is causing the car to dump boost before it should. I would upgrade to a Forge DV - they're built much better and can hold higher boost if you decide to modify the car.

ISn't this normal lol? THe turbo is going to be only audible at acceleration when you pick up the RPM via higher exhaust flow. At an idle the turbo is running but at such a low RPM that you wouldn't hear it? Correct me of Im wrong? Because on my 1.8 the turbo is audible at idle only when I first turn the car over, after a minute it'll die down to a low spin, but the boast and sound is their again when I accelerate.
