2000 A6 4.2 Turbo

Hello everyone,
I am a student in the motorsports program at UNC Charlotte . I have a senior design project and was considering turbo charging my 2000 audi a6 4.2. It would be similar to a STS setup with a remote mount turbo, possibly where the OEM mufflers are mounted. I am trying to do some research to see if this would be possible. Is it possible to tune the stock ECM to work with a turbo? I do not know of any tuning software available. Are there any aftermarket companies that could custom program an Audi ECU? Any information or ideas would be helpful. Thank You

Any way you slice it, you're going to PAY big-time. Most likely, since a boosted 4.2 isn't used by Audi anywhere, you're gonna be switching to standalone engine management (and all the associated parts that are required for tuning such a setup). You may want to look into a different project. You could do it with piggyback controllers (Rebic III, S-AFC, etc) and probably make it decent, but you're not likely to maintain the smoothness of the car in its current form. It's more likely to turn into a temperamental animal. Still, if you don't mind that, go for it - someone having the balls to forge ahead like that is what enables everyone to buy such parts for their own cars later on.

You might be able to find a tuner that would be willing to do a tune on your car that would match a tune for the twin turbo 4.2 liter RS6 which it seems upstateNYA4 completely forgot about.

BTW the RS5 proto type from Audi also used a twin turbo 4.2 liter V8. :)

A-ha, that explains it! I always wondered why they put gerbils under the hood of an RS6!
