New ebay K03 vs rebuilt used OEM?
 

So the turbo on my 2000 A4 is completely blown (about 1/4 inch of shaft play!) and i need to replace it. New is out of the question, so my options are 1- buy a used one and rebuild at home, marking nut to shaft relation and not rebalancing, or 2- buy an ebay turbo. Would probably end up being about the same pricewise. Any opinions?

Used-and-rebuild, definitely. But buy a rebuild kit from a reputable shop. eBay turbos should be avoided at all times.

Just ordered a full rebuild kit and a used turbo on ebay. Thanks, wish me luck! Can't possibly be worse than it was, it burned 13 quarts of oil in 150 miles!

Good luck! And I think you mean it guzzled 13 gallons in 150 miles... damn that's a lot of oil (and a lot of money). Just to be sure, the used turbo you ordered is an original unit?
