Hoping to Join the Club
 

I'm Jay and just posting to say 'hi' and that I'm hoping to join the Audi club as I'm currently shopping around for a used 2005+ A4/S4 for under $20k. (the lower the better!)

I plan to get a pre-purchase inspection performed by either

• an Audi dealership, or
• an independent dealership, or
• Carchex

And I'll also I'll be bringing my trusted mechanic with me to check out the car, test it and give me his quote based on the report given above.

For what its worth, I'm coming from a Solara that I purchased new back in 2005 so I'm very much interested in hearing the good, bad and the ugly from veteran Audi owners.

• Is it a high maintenance car?
• Common myths/misconceptions about Audi in general?
• Is it almost prohibitively expensive to repair when things go wrong?
• Are there somethings that tend to 'go' (meaning break or need repair) first? (e.g.: Steering rack, engine mounts, rear diff etc)
• Any 'gotcha's' I should be aware of?
• Etc.

Since I plan on either selling or donating my car, this will be my daily driver so it needs to be reliable and last several years before a major ($500+) issue pops up. This is especially important since we just had our first kid - almost two weeks old!

I'm located right on the East coast and my search span is no further south than VA and not much further north than NY. Exceptions made for CT as I have family up there!
