Vermont AF er's

My family is looking to purchase a 2nd home for year round vacation use in Vermont. Does any Vt. AF members have any suggestions as to what towns are best. We would like to be near, 1/2 hr, drive to killington or okemo for sking as well as lakes & golf for summer fun.

Please send me a PM or email.

Thanks

Anthony.

Sorry I'm a bit north of there near Burlington. Don't know the area well enough to advise.

All depends on what your looking for. If you want city, Rutland is about your best bet (where I'm from). Keep in mind, its Vermont, so I use the term "city" loosely. Most flatlanders seem to congregate in Mendon (like 10 minutes from killington, maybe 45 from Okemo) or Chittenden (right near Mendon).

Just so I can get this out there, the Mendon cop (thats right, singular COP) is a DICK. He regularly pulls people over for 3-5mph over. Everybody is cracking down on speed up here. They are making the speed limits so god damn low that leaf-peepers and whitehairs (the general population) are speeders when they do 30. If you can get a Valentine One and out late at night though, there are some twisties to behold. And, there are a few spots where 140+ on the highway isn't unheard of. Welcome to Vermont, just dont do 15 in a 50. ;)

Only in Vermont can the natives do 65 in a raging blizzard and not flinch.

Thanks for the 411.. We are looking for a year round use house. Definitely sking in the winter, but also need summer activities, swimming, golf, hiking etc. I heard the property taxes are high near killington.

Have you tried the other side of Killington? I used to live in Woodstock, which is 25 minutes away. Route 4 is the main east/west road.

If you focus on Okemo, your dollar will stretch farther. In fact, you can get into New Hampshire and still be within reach of Okemo, plus Killington and Ascutney. You'll be right off of route 91, for good highway access, too.
