Default 1988 M5

I ran into an old friend last night. He says hes got an 88 Bmw M5 with a custom T4 turbo set up. Hes claiming hes got like 500 hp. I haven't seen it yet but he says it will blow me away when he takes me for a ride. He also works at an independent shop and says he will do my timing belt for like $20-30 an hour. Thats a sweet deal. I dunno to much about turbos so dont hold me responsible for what Im saying, Im just repeating what he told me.

this is a 1988 M5, if he says he is putting out 500hp, ask for the dyno.. because I am going to call "Shenanigans" on that

Some T4s are capable of pushing out of 50lbs/minute, so I don't doubt that he could have 500hp, but with the stock compression ratio, he would probably need water/meth to safely run the required boost levels. 500hp on a T4 is pushing that turbo pretty hard. It would probably take 27-30psi to make it that high.

Yeah he was just guessing. He told me he was only at 20psi so yeah its probably not at 500. Also he was talking crank not whp.

Oh, well crank ratings could pretty easily be 500 at 20psi. Remember, that's only around 400 wheel hp. Good numbers, but not really that hard to make if you know what you're doing. Keep in mind that the 88 M5 was rated stock at 250ish, and every 14.7 pounds of boost that you add is effectively doubling the displacement.

Sounds about right then.
