2008 Formula-1 season!

Anybody excited about the new Formula-1 season starting this weekend? I know I am!

Lewis Hamilton is on pole for the first race, the Australian Grand Prix -

Any predictions for the season? I will be rooting for Lewis and McLaren to win the driver's and constructor's championships!

Yes!!
Im pretty happy Raikkonens car screwed up and he didnt go any further.
Im also bummed Webbers car also broke down.
It looks like all the teams have improved a bunch except for renault, Alonso is going to have to do some work this year if he wants to win.
BMW, Williams, Toyota and both of the red bull teams will have to compete with each other for the points this year.

What a GP...7 out of 22 cars finished. Most exciting GP in a while.

What an awesome race! The new safety car for the '08 season, Mercedes SL63 AMG, had a busy first day at the office.....what was it - 3 safety car periods? Lewis Hamiliton was special. It was great to see him and Mclaren stick it to Ferrari after last year's chaos and drama.

And just for thrills - Timo Glock's spectacular crash: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hMv7RLjkC90

HAHA WOW that was impressive! It could have been worse though. At least he was able to walk away.

it was a very exciting race. i was happy to see ferrari get shut out of the points!

i wish kubica and webber could have hung around and finished. overall, i was happy to see hamilton and rosberg on the podium. i've always been a williams fan and it's good to see them back on track. and how about bourdais? points in his first race, good for him.

i'm going to montreal in june and can't wait. i think lewis could en up dominating, but who knows. kimi will still be there at the end i'm sure.

Bourdais did so good til the engine let go.

Kimi got 1.

and that was such a young podium. I'm so stoked for Williams to be back in it.
and what about Rubins driving off with the fuel hose still in the car.?

So far so good.

I stayed up late watching, so many cars out of the race, anyone think it has something to do with no TCS this year?

saintforlife 03-16-2008 11:16 PM

RE: 2008 Formula-1 season!

Well Robert Kubica said during the pre-race interview that he has been testing all winter without Traction Control and that he has forgotten what it was like to drive with TC! The lack of TC definitely may have contributed to Kimi's second 'off' chasing Timo Glock like the commentators said on air. But whatever it is, it made watching the race so much fun with the cars sliding around the track. I think it brings out the inherent skills in the drivers when they do away with the driver aids.

Hell yeah they are, I still remember when Derrick Warwickcrashed, when he was driving for Jordan in the 90's. It was on the first lap I believe, his car tumbled, hit the guard rail, car split in half. The engine half went one way and the monocoque went the other way, which finally landed upside down. Everyone expected the worse, then, he moved around, unhooked himself and got out. He then proceeded to run back to his pit and got in his back up car and continued the race...only to blow up the engine in his back up car

I just wanted to weigh in on the F1 thread. I am a big Red Bull supporter, I also pull for Kimi even though I am not really fond of Ferrari.

I worked with the Jaguar F1 team in 2004, the Renault team in the off season 04/05 and Red Bull Racing in 05/06 then the Pratt & Miller ALMS Corvette team in 07 as a tire engineer.
