anyone been screwed on ebay?
So i sold my a6 on ebay last week. The guy who bought it used the Buy it Now feature for 7999.99. So he gets here yesterday and tries to talk me down in price. I am just like, no, it was an auction. He was trying to tell me that the car would need a new windshield so he wanted like 500 bucks off for that. Also, he said he would have to repaint one side of the car due to an accident it was in back in 2001. So anyways, i tell him he didn't ask about the windshield, plus the crack is like 3 inches long at the top of the passenger side glass. I didn't say the glass was perfect either. And about the paint, the carfax had that there was a wreck back in the day. Anyways, i feel like he drove down here already thinking he was going to take money off. I didnt lie about anything in my listing. He drove 600 miles one way to come pick it up. To try and be fair, I told him I would take 7000 for the car. He offers me 5500. I pretty much told him to have a nice trip back. Anyone else been through something like this?
I read a post about a month or so ago about a similar transaction. 1 of the members here bought a car on ebay, spent like $300 to fly into his area, and the seller would not take his bank check which was previously agreed upon during the sale. So basically he spent $600 to look at a car. [:@]
yeah, stuff like that makes many people shy away from using online auctions. i didn't hold any information from this guy on purpose. i guess he was just hoping i was desperate for money. but hopefully i will never be that desperate.

If your going to buy a car on ebay, there are services that will send a professional mechanic out to inspect the car. Thats the best way to not fly all the way out to were the car is and know your not getting screwed.
Hrmm, well you should do your best to report any obvious problems with the car... A windshield is obvious, and a crack means it won't pass safety.
The accident is pretty much his problem, if he had access to the carfax. If the car does actually need body work as a result of the prior accidents crappy repair job, then that sort of thing should be listed in the auction.
It's true, that he should ask questions... but I'd never ask "is the windshield okay?" I'd be asking more blanket statements, "Are there any obvious flaws?"
Tough call.
Looks like a nice car, though... 7999 for a 4.2 seems cheap.
