Audi's reliability

I am in the market to buy a new car and I have my eyes on the A5 sports back .

This will be my first ever Audi(and even in my family) . I have heard horror stories about Audi's reliability which is scaring me to other brands(mercedes for example).

I would like to hear from you Audi users:
1)How much miles did you put on your car?
2) When should I expect trouble to occur(how many years of use? miles?)
3) What is the most reliable current model of Audi?
4) Woud you say Audi is more or less reliable than other german manufacturers?

Any information would be great help

Most of the reliability problems you hear about Audi come from people who have no idea how, when, or why to take care of a car. If you follow the service schedule, and take real good care of her, she will run damn near forever. My A4 is 13 years old, 154,xxx miles, still on the stock turbo, and running strong. Have I had random things break and need replacing? Yes, 13 year old electronics wear out, like on ANY car. My next car will be an Audi. The car after that will be too.

Good luck, and welcome to the forums.

I concur with Brad. But, that is true of pretty much ANY car or mechanical device. If you take care of it, it will last. Audi is no different. But, unlike other brands, with an Audi you get all the prestige of Merc, @ 3/4ths the price. And, performance on par with BMW without the douche-bag association (mostly). AND, the world-reknowned awesomeness of Quattro!

To be clear, repairs on an Audi (just like every other German brand) is NOT inexpensive. Far from it. Audi (and German) parts COST! But, take care of it and it will last* you a good while.

(*disclaimer: Mechanical devices sometimes fail in unplanned and expensive ways that no rational man could ever predict.)

I think the A5 came out around 07-08, with a refresh a couple years ago? Not 100% on that. Check in to the A5 section and look around. They would know more than most in the Off Topic section.

The A5 sure is beautiful.
