Bought my first gun!
Stopped by big5 today to see thier Century Arms International selection (importer of old antique guns). I saw a Yugoslavian Mauser I fell in love with and bought. $99.99+tax+transfer fee = $133. I can't wait till the waiting period is up so I can go pick it up and clean it so I can shoot it. Its still covered with that cosmoline **** and is actually in good condition for its price.
I'm thinking about sporterizing it into a hunting rifle maybe... not sure. It's gonna be a beater/trunk gun for a while.

yea i picked up an SKS like that a while ago, turned out to be in great condition after we completely tore it apart to the last lil piece and re did everything that damn cosmolene gets in toe everything and it sucks to clean up
The good thing about the Mauser it that it's cheap enough to not be too concerned with the few problems they have due to age.
The SKS is probably the best ex-mil gun you can buy though. Cheap as hell, easy to mod, non-stoip mods available, will run forever, and surprizingly accurate all things considered. I used to take out the plunger to make it single shot with not auto action, and I could peg a Suburban sized object from half a mile 9 out of 10.
Plus, I've owned it for 8 years, I have not once cleaned it besides just a quick exterior wipe-off, and it have never once jammed or siezed. Not once. A friend of mine used to dunk his in a bucket of wet sand, pull it right out, and pop off a full 40 rnd clip with out a single problem. Thing's a tank. It rox.

Yep, SKS is my next gun for sure. 30 round magazines are illegal in California. Beyond that, I doubt the mods want me discussing illegal behavior.
My buddy has an SKS with a 30rnd magazine... its so fun to bump fire.
