now tell me what I need to do to build a linux cluster. does all the hardware have to be the same between nodes?

i want to take a bunch of PC's and make them act as one. You can only put so much memory and hard drive space in one computer, but you can multiply that with a cluster.

Given that you had enough computers to start with, say, 32. You'd have a budget super-computer waaay below 'real' super-computer prices.

You DO wonder what the hell you're going to do with 4 PCs and 2 laptops. Cluster sounds like a pretty good idea.
