congrats, that means that you can do way much more with a computer then I can.
|
they aren't good enough to bother. well, obviously if i get them for free, any money is making money, but I'd rather try something different.
also might be picking up this collection of stuff from a local guy: (A) Desktop Computer Dell Dimensions 4100 Pentium III 512MB RAM Ethernet card Sound card ATI video card (AGP 8x/4x Radeon 9200) Two hard drives CD reader/burner No software installed No monitor, no keyboard, no mouse (B) HP Three-In-One Printer PSC HP 2110xi Color printer, color or B&W copy, scan USB cable It works and has newer ink cartridges (C) Misc computer stuff ATI all-in-wonder video card with multi-port input jack (has TV tuner) Ezonics internet video camera (model # EZ-305) D-Link Ethernet broadband router (wired) Element-K student manual to learn FrontPage2000 (intro and advanced); includes student software Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz (54Mbps) broadband router (wireless) Misc software (includes some old games like Doom II and Duke Nukem 3D) (D) Nikon one-touch 35mm camera (worked great!) (E) Toshiba 4-head VHS model # M-656 $35, not bad.... he's got more, I might go for it as well, but I need to make sure I'm not gonna cut myself short on rent. I haven't really been on top of keeping my checking balanced lately. oops. The other lot: Motherboard Asus K8V-SE Deluxe with chip (P4, I think) Video card e-GeForce 7800GS (card mounted fan for cooling) (works 100%) Internal Zip drive Internal 3.5" floppy drive Turbolink power supply (500w) Model ATX-CW500P4 with all the SATA (etc.) wires (all connected) Two case fans. Anyway... you have any advice for building a cluster? |
If any of the video cards are better then an ATI 9600se then id take it off your hands haha.
|
well u said u wanted to do a linux cluster. i know basics of linux. but not that deep.
|
i have some shit if you're interested. an asus mb, the last top of the line model they made for the 478 socket, a i believe 2.6 ghz p4 533 mhz , 786 mb of ram, i thnk 250 gb hd, and an ati radeon x1300 pro with 256 mb agp 8x, sound blaster audigy ex sound card, and an ultra xconnect power supply, i think 350 or 500 watts. the case is nothing worth while, but if you want it u can have it. needs an o/s.
dvd burner, carder reader, and 2 dim fan controller, the one with the big round lcd in the middle, and a pci fan. was building it as a gaming computer and lost interest. |
sounds like what e-machines will give you for 200$

if this means free + shipping, Im probably interested. sad how quickly your investment turns to crap. my dual boot system cost me $1200 to build. that doesn't include peripherals. Started with a $100 lian li case. Thats still worth something at least. the mobo attaches to a panel that can slide out of the back of the case, so if i ever wanted to, I could fill a fishtank with mineral oil, and dunk the bulk of my computer in and have a liquid cooled setup ready to overclock to the max. |
my pc cost me almost 5k im very mad cause its now outdated.. core i7 makes me angry
|
holy crap. i can't imagine spending that much on a computer.
btw, what kind of computer stuff do you do for work? 'technician' is pretty broad. |
