Considering a 2012 Forester XT 2.5T
Hey folks,
Just wondering what the opinions are on this car i.e. Fuel economy, durability, how happy owners are with the earlier models etc.....
Im a full on Sub noob so coming from the Audi world, we are considering this car for my wife but I'd like to know if there are any underlying or hidden secrets that Subaru does not really tell anyone about. Also, (and I know im asking a biased audience here) how does subaru compare to Audi Quattro? I know there are a few of us here who own both Audis and Subarus so any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. The one thing I really like about this car is that it has the same engine and turbo system as the WRX line and can probably beat my car any day lol. Not telling the wife that though.
Cheers and thanks.

Hey Pablo,
New to the Audi forums (picking up my B7 A4 on Wednesday) but I'm a long time Subaru owner. I haven't owned a Forester but have had my 07 Legacy GT for 6 years. Cars been stage 3 (300whp, 320wtq on a Mustang Dyno) for over 75k miles. The 2.5 engine is very strong. Car presently has 122k miles and has been very reliable. I've never gotten stuck in the snow running either Blizzaks or Conti DWS's. As for mileage that's probably the biggest drawback. I got about 25/26 Hwy mpgs on premium. Once tuned it increased to about 27 but that's about it. You have to run premium and will most likely be looking at similar mileage. Good luck with your decision but I've loved my Subarus (owned a WRX wagon as well). I am however looking forward to getting my A4 this week.

My father in law swears by Subaru. His last two outbacks both needed new head gaskets ~ 200k miles and new transmissions ~ 230k. Not bad. He neglects them, and I'm not talking just letting things slide. He does nothing to them until it breaks, even then If the car still moves he keeps driving. He only uses top quality Walmart generic oil.

Had a Legacy wagon a few years back with the turbo 4. thing was awesome. real quick for a wagon. plenty of room for stuff. great options. mechanically, very solid.
we really liked it. unfortunately, both the wife and I are on the taller side. the seat cushions are very short, impossible to adjust for comfort on long drives. there was decent leg room but we both had "too much leg" hanging off the seat to stay comfortable. not sure if all subies are that way. we moved from the subie to a nissan and it is amazing the difference in people room.
