Default Euro Delivery

There is a thread over in the S-line sub-forum that went way off topic and started discussing "European Delivery." Basically, you get a discount on the price of a new Audi, fly to Munich, spend a night in a hotel at Audi's expense, get a tour of the Audi factory, and receive your Audi as it rolls of the assembly line. Then you get to drive it all over Germany (for up to 3 months), return it to a turn in point, where they clean it up, and ship it to your stateside dealership. That sounds like one hell of a souvenir for a great Euro vacation.

Discuss...

had a friend who did it with his BMW. I think he also go track time and some driving/handling lessons from a factory driver

definitely another one of those things that is on my bucket list. unfortunately I'm too busy being a "responsible adult", at least for another 10 years 7 months

It'd be a hell of a trip if I had the money and sense of commitment to buy a car brand new. Even with the money, I'm not sure I could do that.

I'm curious how to work it into a military thing, if I ever get stationed over there...

For the Military, you hafta ship a car overseas, to be entitled to ship one back. I know of bunches of people who did this. Otherwise, you hafta wait'll you're close to your DEROS date, to purchase one. Then it's just like stated above, you getta drive it around for a few months, take it to a designated shipping point, and pick it up stateside (but, not at a stealership).

Ask around. SOMEONE stationed there has done one or the other of those. Prolly E-6 or above, most likely.

I just pinned WO1 a few months ago, and PCS'd to Ft. Hood, for what I hope to be a considerable amount of time (kids in High School). So, if a trip to Germany is in the distant future, by then a new Audi will be affordable and very high on my wish list.

Wait, so let me try to see if I understand this... you pay for the Audi at a discounted price, and they throw in all that other stuff for free?

Well, obviously you pay for the up to 3 months you'd drive it around, but the other stuff?

I don't think it's at a discounted price. It's actually MORE than what you'll usually pay for.

I think at one point Top Gear was making fun of this. The fact that they charge more for someone to pick up their car at the factory rather than the dealership.

That would definitely make more sense
