Default Faith : How much

How much faith do you guys put into your radar detectors?

I just bought a valentine V1, and I know they are amazing but I am just wondering how much faith can I give this bad boy... so hard to trust a box to protect my plastic...

Detectors are a band-aid. You need a hidden blocker.

Jammers can be detected though... detectors cant be directly detected... although they have their ways.

They have their place(I have avoided some tickets with my Passport), but you can't just turn your brain off, drive fast and wait for the little lights to save you from tickets. Cops are smart enough to flip both radar and laser guns on and off - and this tactic basically renders your detector useless unless the cop lights up someone in front of you because it appears that they are going too fast. If the cop doesn't pull them over, you will hopefully have time to get your speed down before he can turn it on you.

If you want to do a real speed run, a good way is to send someone out in front of you and have them talking to you in an earpiece on your cell. This will keep you informed of any parked threats/speedtraps and also oncoming cops on other side of highway well out in front of you. You still have to worry about one coming up from the rear, but if you are really moving down the road - what are the odds of that?

Well when the cops use laser, there is a good chance your toast.

Ka band is like a machine gun, laser is like a sniper rifle...

Did I get that analogy right guys?

That sounds about right. But I also think I read that lasers can accurately track multiple targets at once within a certain field of view - so it's a really good sniper rifle.

i used to have a cheap 50 dollar cobra in my old honda, it saved me from at least 3 tickets that i know of in the year i had it, and most likely another 5-6 that i can't be sure of. you can wire the v1 to be pretty much undetectable, check out the how-tos on aw.

and for the cops that don't turn their radar on til the last minute, the best thing to do when you get clocked is to brake as hard as you can without looking drunk. if your speed varies enough every second they can't accurately clock you.
