RE: Is graffiti art or vandalism?
when you paint a wall you cant sell it can you ( because you dont own it ) so graffiti is vandalism so obviously the law has to come into it ( paint a wall and make nothing ) paint on canvas and be proud of it = making money which is common sense I would have thought,
tagging is a gang thing so illiterate and shouldn't be confused with art

It's an art definatly. I forget where but I believe there's a museum now for graffiti and it's been recognized as an "alternative art". I think graffiti is alright as long as it makes sense where it is. Also, a lot of people don't like it because they associate it immediately as a gang thing. It takes a lot of skill to spray, stencil, and draw it all.
I think if I had a cement wall in the backyard instead of fences I would hire someone to bomb the wall for me.

Graffiti is definitely art. Its most often a reflection of the artist's perception of life and their take on social and political events. It takes alot of talent and imagination to pull off some those sick pieces. It can also be nothing but vandalism at the same time because many talented artist only bomb state property, illegally. Is it wrong? Yes but definitely looks good. Those idiots who tag gangsigns and crap on walls are NOT graffiti artists. Back in the 80's NYC had a huge problem with graffiti all over the trains and even in the financial district, where it just doesn't belong. Whether or not its art doesn't matter, if its on private or state property its vandalism pure and simple.
