gun free zone??? ( a rant)

Va. tech is a gun free zone. unless of course your a criminal. Then you know no one can defend themselves. In 2006 the Va. legislature voted down a bill to allow security and permanent resident students to carry firearms on campus. The univ. spokesman said that his students and faculty would FEEL safer without firearms on campus. Now what does he have to say? Certainly we'll never know if someone was carrying a firearm, wether or not the pc. of **** who commited this horrible act could have been stopped. But in many other cases animals like him have been stopped thru the use of Lethal force. So as a nation mourns and we all pray for the victims and their families. Keep this in mind. What kind of gun was used doesn't matter. All guns can kill. How he got it doesn't matter. There will always be guns in the hands of criminals if they so desire. The 100s of gun laws on the books are rarely enforced to the fullest extent. The revolving door of justice is just that. And if the citizens of this country are not allowed to protect themselves then who will? The gov't ? The to little to late security officers? perhaps the administration on campus? Or the cops when they get there to late. As for me, God willing, I'll defend myself

One thing is for sure, the kid looked like a ***** so 1 shot to him and he is out. Wish i was in that room packin and he came in, there would be 3 hits........ my bullit hitting his face, his face hitting the floor, and the herse hitting 25 to the cemetery!
I don't know about all the machismo stuff. If you ever seen someone shot it's a sobering experience to say the least. and because you have a weapon to draw on someone who already has one out certainly doesn't mean you'll win. However; I'd much rather take my chances with a gun than with out. in any case I hope the sob is burning in hell by now. Now watch the media feeding frenzy on gun control. so we can all FEEL better.
Everyday I deal with irrate customers (I run a police impound yard - though it is privately owned). Three times I've been threatened physically (at 6 ft/240lbs it never goes beyond threats with me). We've had our yard firebombed twice - one instance they almost burned down the glass door (thank God for safety glass and steel buildings).
Lately local law enforcement has been targeting vehicles of local gang members and they are a fun sort to contend with - threats have been more ominous than in the past.
Our biggest fear is that one will do what has been done in places like VATech and Columbine. A person will just come in a spray the office out of frustration and anger. I've had two gals quit over stress on this issue - one got followed home by whom we haven't a clue - and my staf consists of only two guys (one my oldest son of 19) and one old tough gal (who hits harder than most men) and myself.
Often, mostly by my drivers, has it been suggested to carry loaded weapons in the office and I have refused to down that path. This may be a mistake, but I have seen where weapons - once introduced to a situation - rarely calms it down, it only escalates it.
As I'm typing this, our office is being fitted for bullet-proof front glass, a sliding draw and remote open front access door. This is how they are in Los Angeles, and until now, it's how it's going to be here as well.
But back to your rant, killswitch, it would prove interesting how that whole situation would have played out.

Well i live in MD a very harsh state on guns but Baltimore has one of the highest murder rates its very hard to get a concield in this state u have to carry money for your business or have been threatened with proof. However, when my dad retired in 2004 and moved to FL first thing he got was a licesnse to carry which is also honored in 17 states including VA.
its easy to look back and point out mistakes. that's all people do with 9/11 and people never shut the *** up about it.
lets take the flip side of your arguement and lets say that law did get passed and everyone on campus could have a gun. whats gona happen when a college kid gets drunk at a party and pulls out his piece cuz hes pissed or emotional or whatever and then shoots up the whole party and kills 30 people. then people would be blaming the law that got passed. there always good sides and bad sides to decisions, you should try thinking of that before you start placing blame
a college campus would be the WORST place to legalize guns. just because of the amount of alcohol and partying that goes on. and i dont know about v-tech but here at FSU the campus has its own police department (and yes they are real cops with real guns). and they are all over campus all the time and they respond to situations within minutes. thats plenty of firepower on the campus for me
(BTW im pro gun)

What would have been of interest is if we take Killswitch's scenerio and play it out -
Cho quietly stolls into class and lights up classroom. Three students in class pull pieces and after nine or more shots - one gets the gunman - dropping his gun Cho makes his way back out into the hallway. During all this several more students (carrying guns) come out into the hall after hearing the gunfire - jazzed up on adrenaline - they see an injured guy stumbling out with three guys with guns following him. The hall studentsyell at the three, but after popping several caps in an enclosed area like the classroom - their ears are ringing and cannot hear the shouts to stop. They open fire on the three now perceived assailants (the little Korean kid doesn't look like a threat to them). One of the classroom three think these guys in the hall are friend's of Cho's and return fire. All this gun play brings out the John Wayne in other students - not knowing who's who and triggers keep being pulled - a kind of vigilante free-for-all...
Can you imagine what the liberal left would do with that much political fodder???
Police are constantly trained to identify the threats in civilian life - that's one reason Military personnel suck at police actions - no clear combatants. But even cops get it wrong at times.
Do you think a gaggle of 20-something's will know who to shoot?

Ineed to ponder the idea of the students having guns on campus but there is no reason y the campus police do not.I have been to 3 different colleges two 4year colleges and a community college and all of them have police that carry. But the community college cop is an old man so mainly that campus is protected by city and county police.
Guns in schools would be the worst thing ever. All hell would brake loose after one shot was fired. Maybe we could arm the teachers. (this would end grade disbutes lol jkjk) At my college we have Ft. Worth police officers that choose to work on the tcu campus. they are armed and quick to respond. however it may take 30 seconds to 1 minute or longer for them to respond and it dosent take that long to unload on a few innocent people. i havent thought abou it long enough but would arming teachers be a bad thing. they would have to pass test and what not to be qualified to carry if they chose so
